3:04am: I got two things.
Everything I can think of seems right. Not like Tigers on paper right, I mean Tigers going 4-2 right. I am even holding back from the "so how come I feel something's not right" jab. That statement don't fit, yo. But I am scared. How can you head into something so unexpected and thrilling, but still feel like you're doing something wrong? I'll tell ya why - fucking baggage. I refuse to let that change the way I do my business. Even though the future may be unsure, if I were to make a list, the reasons for continuation would be overwhelming. I like this girl. So, middle finger to you, JB.

Politics. Yeah, I still think about them sometimes. You know what I like about Obama? It's that he seems to really believe what he says. You know what I hate about politics? It's that in order to get elected, a politician must centralize and generalize what he/she believes. Let's be frank here. Not Frank, but seriously frank. If people say what they believe, they may inspire a great amount of people. But there will always be those who are turned off by one political position or another. And no matter what anyone says, people recognize sincerity, and are really influenced by it if a politician seems serious about a particular issue. Obama will have his followers based on his stances, and they will be devoted because, for sure, he has an incredible charisma and evident honesty about him. But the fact is, if you don't agree with the professed politics of a person, you will not vote for him. That's where we're at in America. There are soooo many political gradations (from liberal to conservative), with so many variances, yet there are only two competing political parties. Until there is an honest attempt at political diversification, no honest politicians will be "electable".

Okay, I'll go to bed.

Top 30 video games:

(These are my favorites anyway) There's probably only one person on my livejournal that could possibly have anything to say about this list - feel free to argue with me! Let's get nerdy...

30. MLB 07: The Show (PS2)
29. Marble Madness (NES)
28. Excitebike (NES)
27. Castlevania (NES)
26. Tetris (NES)
25. Bubble Bobble (NES)
24. Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Genesis)
23. Mortal Kombat (SNES)
22. Rampage (Arcade)
21. Golden Tee (Arcade)
20. Mike Tyson's Punchout (NES)
19. NHL 94 (Sega Genesis)
18. Tombraider (PS)
17. Dr. Mario (NES)
16. Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
15. Mario Kart (Gamecube)
14. Mario Tennis (Gamecube)

6. Half Life 2 (PC)
5. Call of Duty 4 (XBOX 360)
4. NBA Jam (Arcade)
3. Tecmo Bowl (NES)
2. Resident Evil 2 (PS)
1. Super Mario 3 (NES)

Super Mario 3 is still amazing every time I play it. Mario 1 is a classic, but I don't have the attachment to it that you would expect from it being the original. Mario 2 is not on here because it wasn't a good game.

A few games are surely missing: mega man, sonic the hedgehog, halo, doom, probably a lot of XBox and SNES titles etc. but in all honesty, i never got into those games/didn't have the right system or enough ram to run them when they were hip, so oh well.

I also did not include Atari because i can't really seperate the games in my head. They were all fun, but the atari's range was obviously limited. Comparing them even to Nintendo games is hard for me.

Top 25 movies:

25. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - every Xmas, like 10 times
24. Home Alone - every Xmas, like 11 times
23. 28 Days Later - Danny Boyle, yeah
22. The Saint - not even sure why
21. The Quick and the Dead - Cheesy as all hell, but sooo cool
20. Tombstone - Val Kilmer in his best role ever (I'm ya huckleberry)
19. Fight Club - i get the point, we're too materialistic (tyler durden is f'in cool though)
18. Willow - wait, this is Val Kimer's best role (He stole our blackroot!)
17. The Excorcist - still scary this many years later
16. The Princess Bride - "Mehwedge"
15. Knocked Up - man comedy, except kind of smart
14. Rounders - "p'ay that m'an his m'oney"
13. Groundhog Day - Bill Murray living the same day over and over
12. Borat - played out at this point, sure, but I don't usually laugh this hard at movies
11. Dumb and Dumber - I've watched this more times than any other movie
10. 12 Monkeys - I love Bruce Willis in this movie
9. The Shawshank Redemption - Morgan Freeman for president (didn't he play one at some point?)
8. Forrest Gump - could/should be higher, but it really is too long for my taste
7. Lost in Translation - only because of the opening scene
6. Saved - not just for teens, lotta heart and funny
5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Jim Carrey as a serious actor (worked just this once)
4. The Usual Suspects - KAISER SOSE!
3. Star Wars IV
2. Star Wars VI
1. Star Wars V

Who knew the original trilogy be representin my top 3? As it turns out, I couldn't find a movie to put ahead of any of them. Probably has something to do with Leia. I understand that there are some serious classics missing here (Silence of the Lambs, American Beauty, Pulp Fiction, etc.) but the above 25 are movies that for some reason I can watch over and over.

Top 15 TV shows:

15. Insomniac with Dave Attell
14. Star Trek: The Next Generation
13. Star Trek
12. King of the Hill
11. The Daily Show
10. Colbert Report
9. South Park
8. The Office
7. Saturday Night Live
6. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
5. The Simpsons
4. Chappelle's Show
3. Seinfeld
2. Scrubs
1. Home Movies

Top 10 books:

I read, like all the time. I have a huge library. Blah blah blah.

10. The Cat's Pajamas by Ray Bradbury
9. The Manly Art by Elliot Gorn
8. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser
7. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
6. Thank You For Smoking by Christopher Buckley
5. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
4. Fahrenheit 454 by Ray Bradbury
3. The Beach by Alex Garland
2. 1984 by George Orwell
1. Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis

A couple of these books were turned into good movies too. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, specifically is a favorite of mine. The Beach in book form is waaay better than the movie, although after reading it, I found I kinda liked the movie (I found it boring before). Fast Food Nation made me consider being a vegetarian. I think C.S. Lewis is just plain amazing, and for some reason Out of the Silent Planet is my favorite.

So that's it. Anyone still reading this must be more bored than I am, which is crazy.

I hate winter. I can't wait til people start moving around again.

G'night ol' livejournal.

anybody got a "gsm" cell phone they're not using that they want to give/sell to me? i lost my phone, and from what i hear, i can just put a new sim card into any "gsm" phone. i don't really understand what gsm is, but apparently, all verizon and atnt/cingular phones fall into this category... so, if you have a nokia/motorola/lg cell phone that you don't know how to throw away (cause i think they are toxic to mother earth), holla at me through my only form of communication. the internet.

2:00pm: matter of fact
you know, people walking on campus are always on their cell phones. sometimes i don't think they are actually talking to anyone. or the person they're on the phone with is not listening. that's more likely.

also, poker is not a real job and i will tell you why. i played last week and got killed by the wayner and 5 others, not just cause he played well, but because i got 7/2 offsuit way too much. last night, i killed wayner and 10 other people and won tons of money. the only real difference was that i kept getting pocket pairs and/or winning on the river. wayne says i had more confidence, but that isn't hard when you keep getting good cards. luck is a weird thing like that - i can't imagine putting too much trust/money into it. but for 10 bucks once or twice a week, it's fun.

recently i've been really into tortoise... if anyone has any cds, i'd love to borrow one.

"If the guy who does the hiring openly discriminates, why should the employees be expected to be socially responsible? If you're going to jump on a young guy for being hostile about showering next to a gay guy, then jump on the old guy for creating the atmosphere where that hostility is acceptable. There is a chance that Miller nixed the movie because he hates Heath Ledger and, in fact, his franchise would warmly welcome an openly gay player or coach or concession stand worker. But personally, I think his 19-17 Jazz have a better chance of winning the NBA championship. That's just me."

I'm glad that the sports world (writers anyway) is becoming more and more accepting of liberal values (even if the players, owners, coaches and fans are slow to follow)... it's comforting to read this article, even though i know he's going to get hatemail for writing it...

tell me stories so you'll draw me nearer
look intently, absorbed into my ear
nod my head, but i won't say something
tell me things, though you tell me nothing
